Boxing News: Paul Williams VS Verno Phillips live update

Verno Phillips, at age 39 started out excitedly thinking he could use his experience against Paul Williams to dominate him after an accidental head butt opened a bad cut over Paul's right eye. Phillips with the big disadvantage in age and height has been rocked and is certainly losing on the score cards. Williams is maintaining his usual high output and mixing up to the head and body. It looks like he's on his way to a win either way. Phillips has only been KO'd once and that was at the beginning of his career in 1988.

Update: Before the ninth rounds, we go to the cards and stop the fight due to the cut on Paul's eye. No, it's not the cut, it's stopped because the doctor went to Verno's corner! Paul gets the TKO over Phillips. First time in 20 years he's been stopped. Judging from the blood Paul lost, it's amazing it wasn't stopped from the cut. Paul is now the interim light middleweight WBO champion. Congrats to Paul Williams. Great show.

Broadcast on HBO just now, Chris Arreola knocked Travis Walker down three times consecutively, surviving a knock down himself. The fight was stopped in round three. We all could have guessed not to blink during this one. It was a clash of the titans. Congrats to Chris. Max Kellerman brought up the obvious. The Klitschko brothers.
