My condolences to the friends and family of Mate Parlov.
I'm sorry to bring you yet another boxing obituary this month on BE. I think this is the fourth of this month's obituaries and hopefully the last. Let's just take a moment out of our day to remember the great Croatian boxer Mate Parlov who just passed away. He died of lung cancer from what I understand. Mate was the WBC world light heavyweight champion. He came from a very long and successful amateur background of about 300 fights and even competed in the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico City, Mexico AND the 1972 - Olympic Games in Munich, Germany earning a Gold Medal as a light heavyweight in the latter . He had a somewhat short but admirable professional career and was known as a very difficult southpaw to face. He defeated tough Italian boxer Aldo Traversero, once took Mathew Saad Muhammad to a draw and knocked out Miguel Angel Cuello, giving us 29 professional fights in all. If you have any fond memories about Mate, useful links you wish to share, or trivia you want to add or correct, please click on the comments section and have at it. I just wanted to pay my respects.
