BE's round by round scoring and breakdown:
Referee: Raul Caiz
R1: for Velasquez: Teddy says Vasquez took the fight on three days notice and has lost his last four. It seems like an obvious record building fight for Velasquez. Velasquez immediately shows a speed advantage among other things. Tessitore says Vasquez already has blood on the bridge of his nose from a clash of heads not even halfway through the fight. Velasquez has four first round knockouts already albeit with limited opposition. Carlos is landing far sharper punches. They're fast, accurate and hard.
R2: for Velasquez: Teddy thinks if Carlos doesn't go to David's body that the fight might go the distance. He offers that this statement so early in the fight might be ''perilous''. Carlos gets Vasquez in big trouble quickly after Teddy's perilous statement. It looks like Vasquez is about to take a knee. The ref steps in and stops it! That seemed extremely early to stop the fight. I'm surprised. I didn't give David much chance but that seemed to be far too early. They gave him a mental check up in the ring there while treating his cut. I think they're a little bit trigger happy since the unfortunate Oscar Diaz outcome.

Upon seeing the replay it was quite a merciless pounding Vasquez was getting, I admit. It looks like me and Teddy are both off tonight. It was a monster left hook that seemed to stun David first and set him up to stand still to take more punishment. He was blown back into the ropes, which I think held him up, as opposed to deciding to take a knee, which I thought was doing, originally. David did fire back just before the fight was stopped. Perhaps it's not the questionably early stoppage it looked like at first now that I see it again. It's an official TKO for Velasquez and a quick night for both fighters.

BE's Bottom line: We're going to have to keep a close eye on the man who beat the man (Gamboa) and maybe down the line we'll get a professional rematch of a great amateur match up.
