BE's round by round scoring and breakdown:
Referee: Raul Caiz
R1: for Jacobs: With two hard hitters and one who has a vulnerable chin, this should be an exciting fight. Atlas reminds us that Jacobs has been up against soft competition and that this is the same tonight. True that Rios does not sport a reliable chin, he can clearly hit. The round starts with a really good left hook by Jacobs. Atlas says Jacobs can afford to step up to a better quality of opponents or else he might regress. Jacobs is backing Rios up with ease. He's clearly the dominant man. Rios takes the fight on three days notice, Teddy says. This is a running theme tonight. Atlas talks about how Rios and his weight has been all over the place from 130's to 170's professionally. Rios has lost his last seven fights by knockout. Jacobs is much bigger naturally and Teddy says he is still filling out. There's no question who is winning this round. He rips Rios to the body hard. Moving him into the corner he catches Rios and puts him down. Rios barely tries to get up until the count of nine. He's out. That was not even a sparring session level ''fight'' for Jacobs who may not have gotten one good shot from Rios. The replay shows a right hand on the ear seemingly doing the job. So, it's an official KO for Jacobs.
BE's Bottom line: Jacobs needs to get into the ring again fast and build up that record while he's hot. If Rios wants to continue his career, God help him, he should at least move down to junior middleweight because he does not take a punch well. The welterweights of today would destroy him as badly as the bigger super middleweights and middleweights, is my guess. Junior Middle may be best for him if anything. Another kayo loss but blessedly fast for Rios. Tough break.
